Memorial service for the victims of the attacks of 22 March 2016
On Sunday 22 May 2016, Their Majesties the King and the Queen, the Prime Minister and the members of the federal government will be attending a Memorial service for the victims of the attacks of 22 March 2016 at 10:30AM. The Memorial service will take place at the Royal Palace in Brussels and is organised by the FPS Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the Royal Palace.
The ceremony will be held in the presence of the families of the victims and the injured victims. The emergency and intervention services, the STIB-MIVB public transport company for Brussels, and the Brussels Airport Company will also be represented.
The musicians Daan, Getch Gaëtano and the Quintet de la Défense will provide musical moments of reflection. Geert van Istendael will be reading the poem he wrote with the Brussels Poets Collective in four different languages and in the Brussels dialect.
Representatives of the Belgian Governments, the Communities and Regions, and the relevant government departments will also take part in the Memorial service. Students of Sint-Ritacollege in Kontich, around one hundred of whom were at Brussels Airport at the time of the attacks, and of the Lycée Emile Jacqmain in Brussels, whose students use the Maalbeek metro station on a daily basis, will also be attending the Memorial service. The service can be followed on the TV stations VRT, VTM, RTBF and RTL-TVI, who will be broadcasting the ceremony live.
