The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium and the Cybersecurity Coalition are joining forces again this year and, together with more than 500 partners, will fight against fraudsters with the slogan: "OK is not always OK!" During the campaign, we wish to draw attention to a particular theme through radio spots, videos on social media, banners and other campaign materials.  The aim this year is to make at least half of the Belgian population aware of how to keep their mobile devices safe.

Many companies and organisations are concerned about the ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe and are wondering how to protect themselves in the event of a cyber attack. The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) can reassure them to some extent: for the time being, there is no objective evidence of a concrete cyber threat to our country. However, a cyber attack with consequences for Belgian organisations can never be excluded.

Since the end of last week, 100,000 fraudulent telephone calls have been detected in our country. Behind calls from legitimate Belgian telephone numbers, other mostly foreign numbers turn out to be hidden, whereby these callers try to fraudulently obtain personal data from the called parties. 

Companies that use Apache Log4j software and have not yet taken action can expect major problems in the coming days and weeks. This vulnerability is being actively exploited by cybercriminals. Those who do not take action can now very quickly become the victim of a cyber-attack.

On 16 November, the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB), Febelfin and the Cyber Security Coalition will launch a striking awareness campaign about the dangers of phishing: Outsmart a phisher. This type of online scam is on the rise and continues to claim countless victims, both private individuals and companies and organisations. The CCB receives an average of 12,000 suspicious messages from the public every day and warns of major phishing campaigns via the new Safeonweb app.

Do you sometimes get suspicious messages? An e-mail with an overly attractive offer or a text message that seems to come from your bank? You are not alone: we are being inundated by a tsunami of suspicious messages. Thankfully, we often outsmart the scammers, but their messages can be so misleading that many people fall for them anyway. In 2020, phishers were able to carry out 67,000 fraudulent transactions for a total amount of approximately 34 million euros.

Today, the Belgian Red Daemons are competing against teams from 21 other European countries. They will represent our country at the annual European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC 2021). For three days they will puzzle and wrack their brains on a variety of security problems that will test their knowledge of cryptography, reverse engineering, network security and analysis of forensics.

The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) received information from a reliable source which indicates that an unidentified vulnerability is being exploited in DrayTek routers enabling ransomware attackers to access thousands of corporate networks worldwide.
