Last round of discussions on Kosovo under Belgium presidency of the Security Council Brussels, 29th June 2007 Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel De Gucht deplores that so far, no agreement on this resolution could be reached. On June 28, the Security Council held another round of discussions on Kosovo, the last one under the Belgian Presidency of the Security Council. The discussion took place on the basis of a revised draft resolution which foresees further negotiations between the parties. Belgium deplores that so far, no agreement on this resolution could be reached. Belgium does not object to further negotiations between the parties, if such talks could lead to supplementary improvements to the UN Special Envoy Martii Ahtisaari's ‘Comprehensive Settlement Proposal' that are acceptable to both parties. Efforts to this end are therefore worth exploring. "It is in the interest of all parties concerned to seize this opportunity", said Minister De Gucht. In his meeting with the Serbian Foreign Minister Jeremic, on June 27 in Brussels, Minister De Gucht appealed to Belgrade to constructively engage in such negotiations. "The Ahtisaari plan is guiding our thinking", thus minister De Gucht. Negotiations should, however, be limited in time and take into account the realities on the ground. The current uncertainty can not last much longer; the status quo is untenable.
